“Bula vinaka!” (Elder Chalk’s Week 12)

Image
Another solid week! More food to be eaten, and people to serve. - Met a magician named Nazareno, great guy and so much fun to talk to! He gave us these cool souvenir keychains of Carcaraña that he made! - Ended up singing Come thou Fount in our ward this week, and conducting the music out of the blue as well- haha ( https://youtu.be/gyUxhPN6hXU?si=N5v5RCxk59VkMW6r ) - Roses/Thorns/Buds: Transfers— if we stay, we get asado from Nazareno. If we go, we don’t haha - A friend named Santi gave us Clash Royale playing cards because the digital game isn't really a thing here haha - Here’s a great video about Agency. Get to the green door part- “Bula vinaka”… good health, good life! https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/video/book-of-mormon-visual-resources/2012-08-1260-act-for-themselves?lang=eng Good stuff down here ~ Hope all is well over yonder! Love Élder Chalk Pictures: Some cool ketchup flavored chips... why not, you know?

Week #5 in Argentina: Ladies & Gentlemen… Hambur-Pizza!

Always a good time to be had here! This past week had some highs and lows, but was phenomenal in building my Faith in various aspects.  Had Asado this week, basically it is Argentinian BBQ minus the BBQ sauce, but I don’t think I’ve ever had better meat in my life... And that’s saying something haha Had a couple Family nights at the church and at some members' homes, and the movie night I referenced last email haha! Good times, didn't take all that many pictures of the events sadly.  Had the opportunity to attend the funeral/casket viewing of one of our dear friends, the Father of the Hipolito Family. Always a strange Experience seeing a body without its spirit. Very intense ambience of sadness, but my testimony of the plan of Salvacion was strengthened all that much more that evening. Everyone saves everything here. Grandpa must’ve loved living here on his mission! Plastic cups in the church kitchen- they just wash and reuse them. They’re FIRST WORLD LEVEL in their food! Ther...

Week 4 in Argentina... I think Great stuff! Belly hasn’t exploded from the food just yet! Although there's waaaay too much ice cream to go around... But I’m not complaining haha. Nothing crazy this week, we haven’t been able to do service projects since its been around 30 degrees in the morning the past few days... Then it gets up to 70 in the afternoon, and by then we’re in the Siesta and everyone's asleep... The timing is so greeeeaaaat! Quick Lil’ recap: - All the families here are amazing! - I got to Baptize our friend  Bautista , I think he'll enjoy making the decision - We teach an English class every week, always a blast when people realize we speak Spanish and English haha  - “Película, Pochoclo, y Postres”- Movies, Popcorn, & Pastries! This weekend we’re hosting a Harry Potter movie night. But here’s the kicker… WE won’t be watching it because we’re missionaries! So we invited everyone in the town and we’ll set it up and then leave haha! We’ll be there but ...

Email #5: The People here are so filled with love

Week 3 in Argentina, man these go by fast! Yeah who would have thought... the weeks are actually flying by. The days just kind of blur together haha!  Anyway, we had a fun time this week with some "Intercambios" and I got to hang out with Élder Toone, great man. His teaching style is pretty sick! Trying to take bits and pieces on the journey to learning Spanish haha Nothing crazy happened, don't worry mamá. Just Zone Conference, and even then, we got free lunch so I’m good over here haha! Zone conference in Rosario was pretty great— All in Spanish. We talked about the “preach my gospel train”: you’re either on it or you’re not. Meaning you’re WITH furthering the work or not.  Rapid Fire recap: - It’s our goal to eat at every Tienda de Helado acá - Am speaking Castillano pretty decently. If I can hear the actual words people say, I can respond but their accents are the hardest thing I’ve ever encountered - Weather keeps going from 90 degrees to 40 and my sinuses hat...

Email #4: “We’re rollin!”

Hola! Élder Monson and I have been keeping busy! Language gets a little easier everyday, and service is always an enjoyable experience - we had fun tearing down vines on a lady’s wire fence.  Highlights: - Lots of dogs. Everywhere. None have chased us yet, thank goodness. Dogs here don’t receive love so they move your hands and put their body under you so you have to pet -Weather: pretty much just cold when we wake up and go to bed -Violence: one guy was walking near us one night, he took a sharp turn to follow us, hands in pockets, head down, he tried to pull a gun, I kicked his knee out, it was fine. Just kidding mama... People say Rosario is dangerous but we’re fine here. It’s like people say Houston is dangerous but if you live in a suburb it’s safer than downtown… -We no longer ride a bus over to our district meeting because of the cost and time so we’ll start doing WhatsApp video calls. We walk everywhere- no bikes or cars - Had District Counsel, its only my companionshi...
