Kenny’s Week 34: Ainara’s baptism!
Ah man. Yall are gonna like this one. High highs, low lows, and a whole lot of HEAT.
The week started off great. But it all went downhill from Tuesday morning...
- We were doing morning studies... then the power went out. In the nice 96°, heat. Which means the fan for air circulation. And we live under a nice metal sheet roof, so the house is an oven if not treated carefully...
- So this lasted until Friday morning when the issue was resolved. And in the meantime, Elder Nielson and I would make the Half hour journey both ways to the pensión (apartment) of the other Elders. That was crazy. But hey, slumber parties are fun every now and then.
- That was probably the worst of it though. The week was epic even through the midst of the trials. For instance:
- This week we had a Baptism of our friend Ainara! She’s pretty dang smart for 10 years old, and loved the whole experience.
Lucas
- We had been teaching him some three months ago, but ended up stopping lessons with him because he wasn't progressing or putting in a lot of effort.
- Tuesday we got a message from him explaing that he had had many questions, opened the Book of Mormon to Jacob 2, and read the chapter - which answered every single one.
- And said he wants to get baptized as soon as possible now. Well see how that goes!
Juan
- We were talking to his kids, who were baptized some months ago, and did some small talk with him...
- He was a tad bit drunk but just stood there in silence with tears streaming down his face about how his life had been completely DESTROYED by alcohol. Related it to a hole that he’s been trying to fill and can never do it.
- We have tried to help him get baptized before, but something had always come up that stopped us from getting there (usually alcohol)
- He straight up asked to be baptized as soon as possible and said he would do everything possible to make it happen, that was a very sobering experience.
That’s about it! Hope the snow in Texas is enjoyable... Man, I’m jealous.
