Who needs pan handles… Kenny’s week 22

 

Hi! So my subject line is a nod to when my mom was cooking during our FaceTime chat and I noticed that her pans have handles, which ours don’t…  haha

This week was whack! From crazy food to a Halloween party in November and an EPIC division (splits) with Elder Gardener, this is one for the books.

- We ate something called Mondongo this week, the "Panza de la vaca" or cow belly. Tasted like wet chicken... Probably wasn’t cooked... Maybe that’s why my Companion got sick haha 

- Élder Price, my Companion, is an acrobat! He and I do some tricks together like flips and different things, but he’s teaching me a few other moves.

- Halloween party was hilarious, Elder Price and I ran a super complex and ultra difficult game of... literally just bottle flipping... and everyone LOVED it haha! Of course Elder Price and I were dressed up as FBI agents which is close to what everyone here already thinks (Not kidding- some people here think we’re from the CIA) 

- We get agua potable from a cement block in the ground- it’s how most people refill their filtered water. 

- Yep, Elder Price got some kind of stomach bug... Probably from some sketchy ice cream place we went to the other week... I’m completely fine but he got the worst of it, I feel so bad for the guy... We went to the hospital yesterday (which by the way is completely free here) and they just said "Yeah drink water and get more sleep," masterclass advice right there.

- Élder Gardener is on his last two weeks here in Argentina, so I got to see a full-fledged Missionary in action and take some of his advice for the work! Always phenomenal to be imparted that knowledge, especialy since I’m still relatively early on in the mission. That, and we got some great food from some friends of ours. Always have to have the food haha

- It’s customary for everyone here to kiss people on one cheek in greeting- all throughout Argentina, very European and friendly

- Service with Nicanor in his workshop- size of our garage plus more… everything you’ll never use again but they keep everything, kinda like my Grandpa Stephen😂 We were there for 2 hours and got barely halfway done

- Election Day is tomorrow there in the US, some people here talk about the candidates but say we don’t live there so we don’t know what’s going on… smart haha

Some of the pictures I’ll be with Elder Hawkins since both our Companions got sick at the same time (probably from the same ice cream) so they’d both stay back in the house while he and I went out to do errands for them haha

  Buen día todos! We’re still going strong out here-  Christmas and New years are this week. If y'all remember from the other email, we have certain rules on what times we have to be in the house and what times we can go out, so we'll be attentive to those, since the people really do get crazy on the holidays haha - There's this stray dog (we named him Scooter since he likes to scoot across the grass here) and he's been following us literally everywhere the past 4 days. Whenever he sees us, he just starts waggin his tail like crazy and doesn’t leave our side. It’s kinda creepy, honestly. We’ll be having a lesson with some friends, and a good half hour later he's still just there on the grass outside, staring at the door, waiting for us. He’s a good man. If you ever end up reading this Scooter, you're an A+ amigo :)  - Walked with our friend to church last Sunday, a solid half hour to the church and we almost missed the meeting... But we made it in time, no sweat...

Elder Kenny Chalk’s 9 month mark! Week 39

  Me again! We had a great zone conference, and interviews with the President are coming up on Wednesday – should be amazing! Also, had variety of interesting experiences this week. - The Zone Conference was phenomenal. There was a big emphasis on what we as missionaries can do to consecrate ourselves to the Lord even before teaching or finding people. It was really thought-provoking. - We talked with a returned missionary who was going through some major personal trials and helped him arrange some things to get his life back on track. He played an epic rendition of the hymn "If You Could Hie to Kolob" – it was beautiful. - I went on divisions (splits) with Zone Leader Elder Eldridge. We ended up walking pretty much the entire night, but we ate bananas at the end, so it was worth it!    - I got a package from my family this week with some things from the States that I've really missed – Pringles, gum, clip-on tie (in honor of my Grandpa Stephen who served here) and things...

First letter from Argentina! 7/22/24

  Hola! Quite a bit happened in the past 7 days, I'll keep it quick haha! First and foremost, MTC is done, and I’m glad to be in the field! Good times all round, excepto for getting here... first a 9 hour Flight to Buenos Aires, with  a 4am  wake up, then once we got there, the leaders go "you got the same thing tonight!" I was so done haha! But yeah, got up  at 4am  again, and I still haven’t caught up on my sleep schedule! It was fun to meet President Walton! Such a nice man. He read my introduction paperwork and said- “I see you are a black belt, that’s good because this is a working mission!” 🙌 I also told him I won’t be a troublemaker.😂 Mom I’ll give him the Texas pasta noodles when I see him next week😂 I did meet up with my trainer, Élder Monson (not related to Thomas S.) and he's been showing me the ropes... He is amazing! We get along really well. He’s been out a year and 9 months, so only 3 months left to go… I will likely be his last companion befor...
